And the last month was chock-full of events for our team, starting with an unforgettable journey to Mauritius, even as the island nation commemorated the 180th anniversary of the arrival of indentured labourers from India on its shores. At home, with two more assembly elections looming large in recently flood-hit J&K and Jharkhand, the poll fever grips both campaigners and the electorates in these states. The Shiv Sena joined the Fadnavis-led BJP government in Maharashtra at last with 10 ministerial berths, bringing a long Maha-drama to a close. US President Barack Obama accepts Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invite to grace the occasion of India’s Republic Day as Chief Guest, adding one more feather to the capful Modi already has garnered from his whistle-stop diplomacy at the East Asia Summit in Myanmar, the G-20 conclave in Australia, at Fiji and then at the SAARC retreat at Kathmandu in Nepal. Mauritius is our focus in Cover Feature this issue. Heritage acquaints you with the last Hindu emperor of India, Travelogue brings you the third and last part of its Poland Trilogy, taking you on a walk-through of Auschwitz, site of WWII’s infamous Nazi concentration camp that extinguished countless Jewish lives. Real Estate brings you perspectives in the light of the new government policies. Satire this time is in Hindi, taking a merciless dig at Godmen, their adherants and their foibles. We have started receiving some nominations, though it is still a mere trickle.
