Home-grown auto manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled its electric passenger car e2o, priced at INR 5.96 Lac, which promises a running cost of just 0.50 Paise per Km, nearly one tenth that of a petrol car and about one fifth that of a diesel car. This is the first launch by M&M after its acquisition in 2010 of the Maini Group owned “Reva Electric Car Company” three years ago. According to M&M, any 15 ampere plug point at home or at work will do to charge the car. After charging for four to five hours, it can run 100 km consuming 9-10 units. The car also incorporates many smart features including the ‘Sun2Car’ technology. Launch is scheduled for April this year in eight cities: Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune and Kochi. The company has already set up over 250 charging stations in various cities with 95 in Delhi
and over 100 in Bangalore. The Delhi government has responded by extending a 15% subsidy on the base price of the vehicle, apart from giving a VAT refund of 12.5%, and slashing road tax by half.
