After having been UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador for Polio eradication for almost a decade, Amitabh Bachchan is today simply elated with the news that India has officially been declared polio free by WHO. The proud cinema legend said on the occasion, “As the brand ambassador for the United Nations in the fight for polio eradication, I’m very happy and proud that India has been declared a polio-free country. I wish to applaud the efforts of the various volunteers and medical workers who have persevered tirelessly to enable India to be free of the disease.” Incidentally, Amitabh Bachchan’s tremendous universal appeal and popularity has only grown as the years pass. Millions of people the world over regard him as one of the greatest icons any film industry has ever produced, and proving this yet again is Mr Bachchan’s firm presence in the top ten lists of the World’s Most Admired People.
