Indian-origin politician Rishi Sunak has been appointed as the UK’s new finance minister by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He replaced Sajid Javid who resigned from the post of Chancellor of the Exchequer in a surprise move during the recent ministerial reshuffle by Johnson.
He is probably the richest MP in the House of Commons and is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of an Indian billionaire and co-founder of IT services company Infosys, Narayana Murthy. Sunak has also been associated with the British Conservative Party and has been a Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks) since Oct. 2014. UK based well known NRI Rami Ranger who was recently made a “Lord” said “Getting promoted to the No.2 position in the government at such a young age speaks volumes about his abilities to run No. 5th largest economy of the world”.
Rishi Sunak is all set to move into No. 11 Downing Street, next door to the Prime Minister’s Office, as he takes charge of the second most important government position as the finance minister.
