Dr. Manu Vora, an Alumnus of Chemical Engineering, IIT (BHU) received NRI of the Year Award 2018 in Philanthropy category from North America for his 30 years of dedicated service to Blind Foundation for India (BFI) and five years of free gift of knowledge transfer project using technology to empower youth and professionals in India with soft skills and quality management knowledge.
He is the Founder Director and President of BFI since 1989 and his team has raised over $4 million to help over one million visually impaired people in India. So far, BFI has supported over 200,000 free Cataract operations, donated 128 Mobile Vans for transport of eye doctors and patients, distributed 10,000 Braille Kits to blind children for their education, and checked eyesight of 900,000 school children and provided necessary interventions such as free eye drops, Vitamin A, glasses, or Cataract operations as needed. This is a Free ‘Chakshu Daan’ Project since 1989. He has also received “2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award”, “2017 Community Leadership Award” from Indian American Business Council, “2016 Simon Collier Quality Award” from ASQ Los Angeles Section. The Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award is an honor reserved for biographies who have demonstrated leadership, excellence and longevity within their respective industries and professions. Talking further his tally, he received “2015 Distinguished Alumnus Award” from BHU.
He has given over 925 presentations in 17 Countries. In 2005, he authored “Managing Human Capital” chapter in the Six Sigma for Transactions and Service book published by McGraw-Hill.
In 2016, The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs appointed Dr. Manu K. Vora as a Fulbright Specialist for a Five-Year term. Dr Vora completed his first Fulbright Specialist (FSP) Project at his Alma Mater, IIT (BHU), Varanasi, India in March 2018.
Dr Manu has made key contributions in Social Responsibility area. He is affiliated with over 80 educational institutions around the world.
