Donald Trump won the key swing states of Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Ohio early this morning, as he marched towards the White House. Florida was a key state with 29 electoral votes, largest of the “swing states” in which Hillary was projected to win following a surge in the Hispanic vote. Also, while the state of Ohio was with Democratic candidate in the two previous elections, the recent result was a big loss for Ms. Clinton.

Trump, pressed his message effectively with voters who feel left behind by globalisation and social change, wrapping up with a flourish on his protectionist slogan of “America first”. Interestingly, to galvanize the vast Modi supporter Indian community, during his presidential campaign, Donald Trump also spoke a few words of Hindi in a video. The video was made to air on Indian TV channels in the US. ‘Ab Ki Baar, Trump Sarkar’ was Donald Trump popular campaign advertisement. This was the first time that a US presidential candidate has specifically targeted the Indian-American vote bank. He became the first presidential nominee to address an Indian-American event. Also, his daughter-in-law Lara Trump celebrated Diwali at a Hindu Temple in Ashburn Virginia, a key swing State. Though, Clinton carried Virginia, along with Colorado and California. It takes 270 votes to win the presidency, and the 69-year-old former first lady, senator and secretary of state could only fetch around 220 votes, as the news goes to press.

With Trump success, following is expected  – renegotiation of US–China trade deals, stronger enforcement of immigration laws, such as building a wall along the US–Mexico border, opposition to particular trade agreements such as NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership,  and reform of veterans’ care, repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, along with the tax cuts.

Donald Trump is an American businessman, television producer, and politician. He is the chairman and president of The Trump Organization, which is the principal holding company for his real estate ventures and other business interests. During his career, Trump has built office towers, hotels, casinos, golf courses, and other branded facilities globally, he is destined to build a New and Strong America now – perhaps, that’s the landslide mandate demands from him. Also, with this Trump victory, along with a Republican majority Congress, one could mean a swift end for Obama style of governance.
